The Armani of Red Wine?

Review: 2007 Terlato Family Vineyards Cabernet Rutherford

You can rent a tuxedo for special night out, or you can have an Armani tux tailored for you - an expensive option, to be sure, but a superlative sensation. Drinking this wine is like walking into an exclusive event wearing the Armani with an attractive companion on your arm...

(Full Disclosure: This wine was received as a press sample from the winery.) We originally tasted this wine at a Wine Writers Symposium dinner with Tony Terlato, Chairman of the Terlato Wine Group.  It was a standout, so we were pretty excited to get our hands on it again.  This is the first vintage for this wine, which was made by Marisa Taylor Huffaker, Winemaker at Rutherford Hill Winery (part of the Terlato family of brands).

After 8 hours of breathing time - which was barely enough - this special occasion wine took us on a near spiritual journey.  Delivering more essence than most Napa Cabernets, the depth and density of flavors brood elegance.  Even though it was just beginning to open up the appeal was undeniable.  Without question it's going to have a promising future, but at present this Cab is tempting.  While not begging for food, it will walk down the aisle in harmony with the right cut of veal.

An exciting wine that just might be worth its $60 price tag.  We were very sorry to see this bottle empty.
