Review: 2008 Smoking Loon Petite Sirah

Another Bargain Winner From Don & Sons

(Disclosure: This wine was received as a press sample.) From the lower reaches of the grocery store shelves comes this terrific value.  Extracted, oaked, dense, chunky, and with a dash of subtle funk make this a winner.  Good structure to the fruit.  Not elegant at all, but that's fine.  Tasted blind and guessed to be Petite Sirah, though without the monster tannic bite - also pegged at a 4.5 star rating at $11 (it's actually closer to $8-9).  Easy drinking and crowd pleasing.  You can tell it's been manipulated, but to great effect.  Solid.

(Ohio residents: Anderson's has this on sale for $5.99!)
