The 2020 Yalumba Y Series Shiraz/Viognier South Australia ($13) is far from fancy. Bottled under a screwcap and priced at under $15, it vibes casual. But that doesn't mean it doesn't deliver. Oh, it does. Youthful syrah provides generous fruit that focuses on fruit more than savory, though the latter is very much present and lends a dose of complexity. The genius in this wine, however, is in the blending with viognier, which makes for a dizzying combo, offering a quenching squirt of acidity, even more dimension, and an irresistible quality that's tough to beat. Yummy and, at this price, deserving of 93 points. Enjoy with anything from tacos to grilled vegetables to steak.
